FM Global
FM Approvals is a leader in certification and approval of building components and systems which include roofing products and roof assemblies. Product approval is based on performance testing of completed assemblies when subjected to multiple perils. A typical FM Approvals program includes fire resistance testing above and below the deck, wind-uplift resistance testing, hail damage resistance testing, accelerated weathering testing, and corrosion resistance testing of ferrous metal parts.
National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA)
Established in 1886, NRCA is one of the construction industry’s oldest and most respected trade associations and the voice of professional roofing contractors worldwide. NRCA supports roofing guidelines and details for the roofing commercial industry.
Roofing Coatings Manufacturers Association (RCMA)
RCMA is a strategic partnership of roof coating manufacturers and affiliates that provides a unified voice to advance, promote and expand the international market for roof coatings through education, technical advancement and advocacy of industry issues.
Miami Dade County Florida Building Department
The building department for the Miami-Dade County is responsible for organization, evaluating, listing and maintaining notice of approvals for roof system product assemblies and accessories for high wind uplift resistance.
Underwriter Laboratories
To protect lives and property, UL applies modern test methods and analyses and is dedicated to working with architects, regulatory authorities, manufacturers, insurers, building owners, retailers, and other partners. An independent, non-profit organization, UL maintains a third-party rating system for reflective properties of roof surfacing materials.
International Standard for Organization (ISO)
ISO is the world’s largest developer of voluntary International Standards. The entire Simon Roofing organization is ISO:9000:2015 certified. ISO 9001:2015 sets out the criteria for a quality management system and is the only standard that can be certified to (although this is not a requirement).
ASTM International
ASTM International, formerly known as the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), is a globally recognized leader in the development and delivery of international voluntary consensus standards. Today, some 12,000 ASTM standards are used around the world to improve product quality, enhance safety, facilitate market access and trade and build consumer confidence.
Florida Building Code
The Florida Building Code was authorized by the 1998 Florida Legislature to be the sole document incorporating all building standards adopted by all enforcement agencies and state agencies that license different types of facilities. This code was adapted from the International Building Code and is updated and maintained by a state commission whose goal the law directs to be the consistency of standards throughout the state and full accessibility to information on the standards. It establishes procedures for administration of the Code at all levels that will constrain unwarranted differences and ensure the availability of information on local differences to all parties throughout the state of Florida.
Youngstown State University
Simon Products has developed a partnership with Youngstown State University and the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. This partnership allows access to advanced testing methods including a scanning electron microscope, gas chromatography, TGA and IR.
